Our discussion on greetings in Yoruba will lead us to a consideration of certain greetings that are used for certain periods, seasons, or specific occasions.

These include greetings during festivities; naming ceremonies, house-warming, graduation ceremonies; seasons; bereavement and so on. For instance:

During the dry season, people will say: “Ẹ ku ọgbẹlẹ yi” or “Ẹ ku ẹẹrun yi”.
During the rainy season, the greeting is: “Ẹ ku òjò yi”, or “Ẹ ku ọgin-ni-tin”.
In the new year, people will greet: “A ku ewu ọdún titun, ẹmi á se púpọ rẹ.”
